"2020"

While in quarantaine, I decided to rethink my way of working. I chose to use what I have around and start from there. I had almost nothing to actually paint on but old, dirty small pieces of canvas. The textiles reminded me of my childhood, when my mother would sew us blankets out of beloved T-shirts that were too dirty or that we started to grow out of.

During these difficult times, I felt comforted by the idea of working with techniques that brought back some joyful memories, so I decided to use my small bits of canvas to create a painted patchwork quilt.

The motifs I chose to paint came from my interest in food and the privilege of having access to it at all times, even during a global pandemic. An overwhelming abundance with dark undertones.

The end product, a blanket sewn out of small still lives, is a fusion of object and painting that can take on multiple functions and reflects on obsessive behaviours regarding food during the Covid-19 outbreak.
